Contact the International Health team
The International Health Team connects Wales with the world. We are the focal point for international health partnership working, networking, collaboration and knowledge exchange. We bring global insights to Wales to benefit our people and communities, their health and wellbeing, and sharing Wales’ expertise across Europe and beyond. Together, we are strengthening Wales’ global health impact while contributing to health security and sustainable development in Wales and worldwide.
Our work strengthens Wales’ role in public health by:
- Turning international policy, practice and research into applicable learning for improvement innovations
- Supporting to develop globally responsible people and organisations across the NHS
- Facilitating and nurturing international partnerships, income generation and investment
- Showcasing Wales’ best practice and increasing its visibility and impact across the world
As part of Policy and International Health, a WHO Collaborating Centre on ‘Investment for Health and Well-being’, we act as a conduit between Wales, other counties and global partners, sharing evidence, expertise and best practice to protect, improve and promote health together with our partners.
How we make an impact
- International Health Strategy 2023–2035 – driving long-term impact through forums, newsletters and shared learning.
- International Health Insights – gathering intelligence and learning from other countries to inform health policy and practice in Wales.
- International Health Coordination Centre (IHCC) – uniting all Health Boards and NHS Trusts to grow international health partnerships in a sustainable and equitable way.
- Welsh Health Equity Initiative (WHESRi) & Solutions Platform – using an innovative WHO framework to position Wales as a leading nation for health equity solutions and innovation.
- Supporting the Global Wellbeing Economy movement – informing and supporting Welsh Government and WHO to implement our Wellbeing Economy in Wales and beyond.
A major achievement is the Memorandum of Understanding between Wales and the WHO Regional Office for Europe, advancing collaboration on health equity, sustainability and wellbeing.
