Where will I be screened?

You will be screened at one of the mobile screening units, or at a screening centre. We try to give you an appointment as close to your home as possible. If the screening site is difficult for you to get to let us know.

How do I get an appointment?

You do not need to do anything. When you are due for screening you will be invited.

Can I ask for breast screening when I’m 50?

No. We invite women based on when their doctor’s surgery is being screened every three years.  You will be invited for screening before your 53rd birthday.

What happens when I reach 70, will I be sent for again?

Breast Test Wales will not invite you for breast screening but you can contact us and ask for an appointment.

I missed my breast screening appointment, do I have to wait until I am invited again?

If you missed your breast screening appointment you can contact Breast Test Wales to arrange a new appointment. It is important that you do not wait for three years until you are invited again.

I am transgender, should I have breast screening?

If you are transgender, non-­binary or gender diverse and are not sure which screening test you will be offered, you can find out more by visiting our transgender information page.

I am pregnant/ breast feeding, should I have breast screening?

We suggest that you talk to us before you have breast screening.

I have breast implants, can I have breast screening?

Yes. You will be given a leaflet to read as implants make screening more difficult.

I cannot understand the information I have been sent, can I ask for it in a different format?

Information about breast screening is available in different formats including: easy read; large print, braille, British Sign Language. This information is available to download under Resources. You can also contact us before your appointment and we can send you the information you need.

What if I need an interpreter?

Let us know if you need an interpreting service before your appointment so arrangements can be made.

I am still under care for breast cancer, why have you called me?

The screening programme calls all women within the screening age every 3 years to make sure no-one is missed. If you are under the care of the hospital you are asked to tell us.

Can I change my appointment?

Yes. Contact us if you cannot attend your appointment, we may be able to offer you a more suitable time and date.
