Time to Talk Public Health

Your voice can help shape public health in Wales.

Time to Talk Public Health (TTPH) is one way that Public Health Wales listens to people living across Wales about topics that could affect their health and well-being. Insight collected through TTPH helps inform decisions about policy and practice.

What is TTPH?

TTPH is a group of around 2,500 people aged 16 and over who live in Wales. The group is broadly representative of the wider population in Wales based on age, sex, deprivation, ethnicity and health board. It is important to hear from a range of voices.

This group helps guide public health policy and practice in Wales by answering our regular public engagement surveys. TTPH activity can be summarised as:

  • Three surveys a year (February, June and October)
  • Group members complete surveys either online or by telephone
  • New members recruited via social media advertising and face-to-face interviews
  • 10 to 15 minutes to complete each survey
  • Surveys capture attitudes, opinions and experiences on a mix of public health topics
  • Minimum of 1,000 people complete each survey
  • Reports published sharing the survey results

Why is TTPH important?

Public bodies in Wales have a duty to involve people in decisions that affect them, so they have a meaningful say in issues that matter to their lives, communities and the future. TTPH supports this by making sure public bodies have access to a reliable mechanism for public engagement run by a team with significant experience in survey design and delivery, and policy advocacy.

Working together with stakeholders

We work closely with teams across public health and Welsh Government; with the following organisations able to submit questions to us to include in TTPH:

  • Public Health Wales
  • Welsh Government
  • Local Public Health Teams

We also collaborate with external stakeholders to maximise the benefit the insight collected. These include:

  • Diabetes UK Cymru
  • NHS Wales Joint Commissioning Committee
  • Older People’s Commissioner’s Office
  • Welsh Police Forces
  • Age Cymru
