Breast screening FAQs - Further tests

I have had a letter to come back for further tests, what does it mean?

Sometimes further tests are needed before we can give you your result. If this is the case, you will need to attend your local breast screening centre. Breast Test Wales will send you further information about having further tests. For more information visit ‘Your results / What will happen at my assessment appointment’ page.

How long will my assessment appointment last?

Depending on what tests are required you may be in clinic from 1-3 hours.

Will I be told why I have been called back for further tests?

You will be told at your appointment why you have been called back. We understand you will be worried about being called back. You can contact us and talk to a breast care nurse before your appointment. For more information visit ‘Your results / What will happen at my assessment appointment’ page.

Can I bring someone with me?

You can bring someone with you, but they may not be able to be with you when you have your further tests. You cannot bring children with you.

When will I get my results from further tests?

Depending on what tests you have, results can take up to two weeks.

What will happen if I am told I have breast cancer?

If you are told you have breast cancer you will be fully supported by a specialist team of doctors and nurses who will talk to you about your treatment options. Further information and support is available at Breast Cancer Now.
