Freedom of information (FOI)
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) came into force as of the 1 January 2005, it reflects a national policy shift in public administration from a culture of confidentiality to one of openness and accountability.
The legislation entitles the public, the general right of access to information that is held by any public authority such as Public Health Wales, subject to certain limited exemptions.

Important note: Public Health Wales is the public health service for Wales and as such is an independent NHS Trust. This is not the same as NHS Wales. As an organisation we have no jurisdiction over the activities of Health Boards and frequently do not have access to the data that they produce.
