Landslides

A landslide is when rocks, mud and water move down a slope. 

Landslides can happen quickly or over long periods of time. They can happen after heavy rain or long dry spells.

Health risks

Health risks include:

  • Quickly moving rocks, mud and water that cause injuries. 
  • Broken electrical, water, gas, and sewage lines or pipes that can cause injuries or illness. 
  • Damage to roads and railways that can cause problems to transport and put people at risk.  

Stay safe

  • Stay up to date with information and follow instructions from emergency services. 
  • If a landslide is likely, quickly move away from the area.
  • Stay away from the affected area. Flooding or additional landslides are possible. 
  • Be alert when driving. Roads may become blocked or closed due to collapsed pavement or debris. 
  • Report problems to the police.
