There is only a small waiting area which leads directly into the changing cubicles, so space is limited. If you need to bring someone with you, this is possible, but you will need to let us know. It may be better for you to have your appointment in the local breast screening centre. Unfortunately we cannot screen you if you bring children with you to your appointment.
What if I need support going for my breast screening?
If you need extra support going for screening, let us know before your appointment so we can discuss what support can be given.
The last time I attended for breast screening the radiographer was unable to complete my breast x-ray. Should I come for screening again?
Yes, even if the radiographer was unable to complete the breast x-rays, we will read the images we have taken and give you a result on the area we have seen.
What if I am supporting someone who cannot make decisions?
Some people find having a breast x-ray uncomfortable, others find it painful. Everyone is different. If you are worried about the test being painful you can take a painkiller such as paracetamol before the test. For more information visit our ‘About your appointment’ page.
What if I use an assistance dog?
If you use an assistance dog which has been trained by Assistance Dogs UK your dog will be allowed to come with you to your breast screening appointment. When you have your mammogram taken they will be able to wait in the waiting area or reception area. No other animals will be allowed onto the premises.
