Welsh Network of Health and Well-being Promoting Schools (WNHWPS)

“No education system is effective unless it promotes the health and well-being of its students, staff, and community”

(WHO, UNESCO)

The Welsh Network of Health and Well-being Promoting Schools (WNHWPS) programme has been supporting schools to embed a whole school approach to health and well-being since the late 1990s. The programme provides support to schools to embed a whole-school approach to health and well-being through local WNHWPS teams providing support to schools and guided by national Standards.

Who we work with?

WNHWPS is delivered through a strong national partnership that brings together health and education partners all working to support the health and well‑being of children and young people in Wales.

Through its partnership with the School Health Research Network (SHRN), WNHWPS enables schools and wider systems to use high‑quality data to understand the health and well‑being needs of school‑aged children. This evidence helps schools take effective, informed action to improve well‑being through both local practice and national policy.

These collective partnerships help create consistent, supportive environments for learners across Wales.

How can I get involved?

All schools and partners in Wales are encouraged to engage with the WNHWPS programme. Whether you’re just starting out or building on existing work, support is available.

You can connect with your WNHWPS team to find out more about how to get involved and what support is available or contact [email protected]
